Sports photographer Chuck Kohn photographed Michael Jordan wearing the Air Jordan 1 Royals in 1985. This photograph, which was later turned into a Nike billboard, was the first time anyone saw Michael wearing Air Jordan 1 sneakers. Ever. Jordan chose the Royals, his favorite colorway, to be the first Air Jordan 1 available for purchase. They were also the only colorway he never wore on court among the first three Air Jordan 1 Retro colorways ("Banned" and "Chicago"). The Royals have been released three times since 1985: in 2001, 2013, and 2017.
