The Nike Air Jordan 1 Mid 'Smashed Backboard' commemorates a legendary event in basketball history when then-rookie Michael Jordan shattered the backboard during an exhibition game in Italy in 1985. The shoe, which debuted in September 2019, is based on the legendary model. It features a black nubuck Stefanel upper with contrasting tumbled leather and 'Starfish' Swooshes. The Wings logo remains on the ankle, while the Jumpman logo appears on the tongue. A traditional air-assisted rubber outsole remains.
