New Balance 550

The New Balance 550 has a traditional shape, and the components used in most variations have the usual leather and mesh construction that many sneaker collectors would expect from a shoe of this type. The leather adds structure, while the mesh improves breathability for jogging and other activities. The 550, like many other classic silhouettes that fans have come to know and love, earned a tribute model in 2020. Teddy Santis, creator of Aime Leon Dore, reissued the design in premium off-white leather with a yellowed and distressed midsole. This was a tribute to the iconic status of the New Balance 550.

The homage to the 550 also features multicolored elements to emphasize its basketball-inspired identity. In the past, the 550 may have been overshadowed by other New Balance models, particularly the company's running shoes. The 550, however, enjoys a cult following among lifestyle footwear enthusiasts.
